This Tax Season, Change a Child’s Story: An Investment That Lasts a Lifetime

Media Release

As South Africans enter tax season, many are reflecting on how their resources can make a meaningful difference beyond the balance sheet. For Girls and Boys Town South Africa (GBTSA), this period presents an opportunity to invite individuals and organisations to invest in something far more lasting than numbers but the futures of vulnerable children and young people, for the greater good of our country.

For over six decades, GBTSA has provided a safe, nurturing environment for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, abandonment, or severe family breakdown. Through its nationally recognised therapeutic child and youth care model, the organisation helps young people rebuild trust, develop life skills, and transition into independent, productive adulthood.

Tax season offers a natural moment for South Africans to consider how their financial decisions can align with their values. Donations to registered public benefit organisations such as GBTSA not only support critical social development work but also enable donors to contribute directly to long-term change in communities across the country.

“Every child deserves a second chance,” says Karen Farred, CEO of Girls and Boys Town South Africa. “When you give to GBTSA, you’re not just making a donation, you’re investing in healing, dignity, and the possibility of a different future for a young person who needs it most.”

Funds raised during this period will go towards providing therapeutic care, education support, life-skills development, and aftercare services for children and youth across GBTSA’s programmes nationwide.

Farred adds, “Tax season can feel transactional, but generosity doesn’t have to be. Giving can be intentional, personal, and deeply impactful. We encourage South Africans to see this as an opportunity to be part of a child’s journey toward stability and independence.”

GBTSA invites individuals, families, and corporates to partner with the organisation during this tax season and help ensure that vulnerable children receive the care, support, and opportunities they deserve.

Donations made to GBTSA qualify for tax benefits in line with current legislation, allowing donors to give with both heart and purpose. Choose us as your preferred Section 18a partner of choice and reap the tax rewards!
